Amazingness at the 2015 Summer Screening and Awards Night!

HWF Staff

On Saturday 8, Hawai‘i Women in Filmmaking hosted the 2015 Summer Screening and Awards Night to celebrate and recognize the achievement of the girls who participated to the Summer Reel Camp for Girls | Basic Reel & Animation, and Making Media That Matters.

Girls need to develop the skills and literacy to critically understand the context we live in. HWF provides a safe and creative environment that encourages trans, cis, non-binary girls to tell their stories through film, where educating each other is key as they become active creators and makers of their own stories -stories that need to be heard.

During the Basic Reel, the participants learn storytelling, storyboarding, use of professional camera, lighting, audio, and editing. Working in small production teams assisted by a mentor, they produce a short video, and so learn the skills to create their own media.

HWF is deeply grateful to the generous support of the Ritchie M. Gregory Fund, Hawaii Community Foundation, Hawai‘i Women's Legal Foundation, Hawaii Camera, Hawaii State Commission on the Status of Women, Kamakakūokalani Center for Hawaiian Studies, ‘Olelo Community Media, Shirley Thompson Editorial, Ande Hambuhen, and Samurai incorporated.
