43 Stories Rising in Mōʻiliʻili by Kelly Nishimura

A documentary about tenants resistance.

Long Project Description

Forty-three Stories Rising in Mōʻiliʻili is a documentary short (7-10 min.) about people in the Honolulu neighborhood of Mōʻiliʻili, whose apartments will be demolished to make way for a 43-story, 1005-unit high rise condominium complex.

The film documents the stories of the people of Kapiolani Village, raising questions about what makes a neighborhood livable and bearing witness to lives of people living in this pleasant, peaceful, sustainable community that will soon be destroyed.

Developed during the 2023 Wāhine in Film Lab
